Scratches and Dust on Rubberised Dumbbells
The rubberised dumbbell and barbell set is the most popular item in our shop. It is affordable and it works. Compared to other types of weights, the rubberised dumbbell is ideal for most people. However, the rubberised dumbbell set is not perfect. At the low price, it has flaws. However, there some tips for you to keep your dumbbells in good condition.
Scratches on surface of weight plates
This is the most common question received from customers. Why are there some scratches on the weights plates? Shouldn’t the surface be smooth? All of our dumbbells are brand new, however, during shipping, the weights plates may come into contact with sharp objects or collide with other objects causing minor dents and scratches on the surface.
In addition, the nature of the rubberised dumbbells means that it is prone to scratches. The layer of rubber is hard but not as hard as metal. Its purpose is to protect the iron in it from rusting and reduce clanging of the plates. If the scratches on the plates concerns you, we recommend that you get the chrome dumbbells or barbells, which is more aesthetically appealing compared to the rubberised ones.
How to reduce scratches
The fastest way to solve the problem of scratches is to purchase scratch removal tools which are widely available. If you are not that particular about some scratches on your weight plates, you can protect your plates from more scratches.
First, keep your weights plates away from sharp objects in your house. The edge of the dumbbell bars may cause scratches on the dumbbell plates. Secondly, do not throw the plates around when you are done with using them. Note that the scratches do not have any effect on the effectiveness of the dumbbells.
Dust on the surface of plates
After the dumbbells have arrived at our warehouse from the manufacturer, our staff inspect and wash all the plates once to clean away the dust as a result of the manufacturing process. Hence our dumbbells are relatively clean with small traces of dust. However, you can easily remove all of the dust by cleaning the weights plates with a wet towel or washing it.
The towel or water may turn slightly darker due to the dust falling off. Some of our customers have asked if the paint from the plates are falling off. For those with similar doubts, we can assure you that no paint or harmful chemicals were used in manufacturing and the thin layer of dust will eventually fall off even without washing.
The odour on our dumbbells is very mild and non-detectable unless the plates are placed close to your nose. For those sensitive to rubber odour, the odour will fade within 1 week of using the dumbbells. You can use soap or perfume if you are intolerant to rubber odour.
Despite some minor flaws of our rubberised dumbbells, many of our customers are very satisfied with its quality and price, we thank all customers for their support. Our rubberised dumbbells are extremely durable and last vurtually forever (under normal usage). If you are looking for a set of dumbbells to serve as a gift, we recommend the chrome dumbbell set which looks great and appears flawless.
