Accessories and Additional Gym Equipment

Sometimes, you need more than dumbbells and barbells, having extra equipment and accessories in your home gym might make your workout more varied and intense. Below are some of my recommendations, some of the equipment are already in our shop, we plan to include others over time.

Dumbbell accessories

The dumbbell set that is available is already complete, however, having additional accessories like the spring collars and handle wraps can increase effeciency of workouts and adds convenience. The best thing is that both items and cheap and widely available.

Spring Collars

Spring collars are an excellent alternative to the dumbbell screws that are included in the set. They are bigger compared to the screws however, 2 major advantages of using spring collars is that they can be quickly put on and removed from the bars and they provide additional security preventing the plates from falling off. To put on the collars, press on the padded part to enlarge the hole, insert the bar into the hole and let go of the padding, the spring collars will be securely inserted.

They are commonly used by strength trainers who do multiple sets of lifting with no rest in between, the spring collars allows them to quickly add and remove weights plates to minimise their rest time.

Note that the diameter of the collars are very precise, make sure to measure the diameter of your bar before buying. They typically come in 2 sizes, 25mm and 28mm, buying the wrong size might mean you are unable to use them. We plan to include those in our shop in the near future.

Handle wraps

Many of you might come to know the handle wraps as badminton handle wraps. The handle wraps can also be used on dumbbell or barbell bars to increase comfort when lifting heavy weights.

If you uncomfortable with the platic or metal handles in most weights sets, the handle wraps provide a rubbery texture that is soft and smooth. Popular among women who want to avoid rough skin, the handle wraps are extremely cheap and easy to use. You can find them in most sporting goods store or even get them as free gifts in some stores.

Lifting support

For those heavy lifters out there, some accessories are essential to prevent injury and allow your body to push past its limits.

Wrist and knee protection

Bodybuilders and those with wrist issues find wrist protection a must-have when they go to the gym.. The wrist is the most vulnerable part in your arm, especially if you’re lifting heavy.

Fractures and broken wrist are not uncommon even among professionals. We included a free pair of palm and wrist protectors with every set of dumbbells, however, to ensure maximum protection, we strongly encourage heavy lifters to go get a professional support gear. They are much thicker and tighter which guarantees your safety.

Deadlifts and squats are the 2 most common exercises that require knee and wrist protection, if those are your favourite exercises, its time to get your protectors now.

Bicep lifting support

This unique tool is not commonly found in singapore, they can be bought on amazon for a reasonable price (search “Body Solid Bicep Bomber Arm Blaster Bicep Lift Assist”). Using this tool is simple, just hang it over your neck and rest your arms on the extended arc. This tool isolates your biceps when doing curls. For those who want to curl with perfect form, this is the tool for you.
